Worship
God is a Spirit; those that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth, John 4:24. The Christians of Highland Heights strive to provide a meaningful worship environment conforming to the New Testament Pattern. This pattern, originating in the mind of God and passed to us through His inspired Word, represents the totally acceptable service required of His servants. Revelation 22:18-19 prohibits any deviation from this pattern and advises of the tragic consequences of failure. “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service.” Romans 12:1
Evangelism
Education Program – “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” Mark 16:15-16
The teaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ to every person in every place is the reason for the Church’s existence. II Peter 3:9 teaches us that our Lord is not willing that any should perish. His desire is that all should come to repentance. Highland Heights offers classes for all ages, addressing every aspect of man’s journey through life. Through the instruction provided in our education program, we urge you to “put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Ephesians 6:11.
World Bible School – World Bible School is a cooperative endeavor to teach Bible correspondence courses to students in all parts of the world. Highland Heights participates in this by providing teachers who correspond regularly with students worldwide, grading their completed assignments and sending new lessons for further advancement of their Bible knowledge.
Home Bible Studies and Bible Correspondence Courses – Highland Heights offers an ongoing program of Bible correspondence courses and home Bible studies. These studies are conducted by individuals trained to lead others into an understanding of how to study the Bible. Students are shown how to use the Bible in a setting of their own value system and structuring their beliefs to reflect Bible teachings. These courses are open to the public. II Timothy 2:24-25 tells us that “. . .A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth.”
Vacation Bible School – Vacation Bible School is conducted for one week every summer. We have Bible classes for all ages including adults. A theme is selected for each summer and classes are built around that theme. This gives children and adults alike the opportunity to invite and bring friends for a week long Bible study.
Benevolence
Meals on Wheels – This is a weekly program with hot meals prepared in our kitchen and delivered cost-free to the sick and shut-ins throughout the area. These meals, prepared and delivered by the Highland Heights family, represent the love and concern which has so abundantly been shown to us by our Lord Jesus Christ. “Whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.” Colossians 3:17.
Community Benevolence – Highland Heights offers food, clothing, and other types of assistance to those who come our way. This assistance is provided on an as needed basis and recipients are carefully screened to assure the proper use is made of the food and other supplies provided by our members.
Outreach
Newcomer Ministry – Lebanon is a growing community. This growth affords the opportunity to meet newcomers and assist them in the various tasks involved in establishing a new home. It is our desire to meet and welcome every newcomer to our community in such a manner that they consider Highland Heights as their church home. Various means are used to meet these newcomers, as well as to assist them in their relocation to Lebanon.
County Fair Project – One of the highlights of our year is the family hospitality area at the Wilson County Fair. Children’s personalized coloring books are always a big hit. Many of our members participate in making our award winning fair project one of the top Wilson County Fair attractions.
Membership Support
Youth Program – “Remember also thy Creator in the days of thy youth, before the evil days come and the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them.” Ecclesiastes 12:1
At Highland Heights we recognize the importance of developing well-rounded youth to become the church leaders of tomorrow. Young people have special needs and our Youth Program is specifically designed to nurture their growth spiritually and socially. Activities range from devotional studies to group outings, with each week offering new opportunities for learning and growing. “Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
N. B. TwEENs – This age group includes grades three through five. Programs are structured around the relationship between God, man and his environment. Special times and events are posted monthly during the school year and quarterly during summer months.
Busy Bible Bees – Our Busy Bible Bees are our youngest group of active participants in the church work. This group is comprised of children from three years old through the second grade. Program includes monthly “fun” activities alternated with “service” activities. Among the service activities are projects involving the elderly and shut-ins as well as singing and providing entertainment at local nursing homes. Parents are encouraged to assist in planning programs for this group.
Elderly & Shut-In Ministry – This ministry ensures our senior members continue to be an important part of our family life and their special needs are being met by their brothers and sisters in Christ. These activities include providing meals, transportation and group outings. Communion is delivered to homes where requested. Our young people in particular are active in providing banquets on special occasions, group activities from time to time, and chores at their homes such as leaf raking and clean-up.
Brotherly Love Program – Every member at Highland Heights is a vital part of the church family. Because we are a family, we are continually and eminently concerned with the physical as well as the spiritual well being of each member. By our visits, prayers, and other acts of kindness we seek to provide strength and encouragement to those in need. It is always our desire to make visitors feel welcome and appreciated. Through follow-up contact provided by the brotherly love team, we demonstrate this desire and concern for our special guests.
Senior Service - The Highland Heights congregation is comprised of widows who are members at Highland Heights. These women are a very special and valued part or our congregation. The wisdon gained through the years of experience are a valuable contribution to our congregation.
This program has three components.
- The auto service segment is a group of men who periodically have each of our seniors bring their car in to be completely checked for safety as well as preventive maintenance. When repairs are required they are assisted in getting the repairs performed by reputable service persons at a reasonable rate.
- The home repair segment is comprised of a different group of men who are available for all types of minor home repairs and general maintenance. Again, where major repairs are determined to be needed, a list of reputable persons is maintained who have agreed to perform these services at reasonable rates.
