History
Highland Heights Church of Christ History
In the summer of 1950 several members of the church who lived in North Lebanon decided to organize a congregation of the Lord’s Church north of Lebanon. Dr. Sam McFarland purchased the Faulkner home and the four acres on which the home was located. Dr. Sam offered the home as the meeting place for the new congregation, which would be known as the Highland Heights Church of Christ.
Other brethren gave money to offset the cost of preparing the home as a place of worship. Both men and women worked long hours, mostly at night, to prepare the home for services. The first service was held January 7, 1951. There were 218 present that first Sunday morning. The first preacher was Robert Dixon. The first elders were Dr. Sam McFarland , Loyed Rodgers, Walter Jones, Ed Arrington, and Dick Neal.
Soon plans were made to build an auditorium. Part of the old home was removed and the auditorium was completed in the first half of 1952. A North educational wing was added in 1961. In 1966 the South educational wing was added. In 1986 the auditorium was enlarged as 30 feet was added to the front of the building.
Today the congregation still stands firm on the truth of God’s word. We still seek the Old Paths that Jeremiah spoke of. We are a friendly congregation that loves the Lord and each other. Highland Heights is active in mission, evangelistic and benevolent programs as we strive to fulfill the mission of the Master.
